in Japan

Hyaku-en

えいごで: The 100 yen shop, the local variant of the dollar-store or pound-shop, is quite popular here. It is surprising how many goods sold there are still made in Japan (all goods in the picture). The beef curry and rice is close to the normal price. The origami paper would be around 250 yen normally and the little ceramic cup would cost you over 500 yen at tourist shops. Despite its name, you pay 108 yen per item (VAT) and most 100 yen shops have sections with higher cost goods.

Japanese: 百円のかいものしました。このものは日本につくったのです。
